Applicants for simultaneous interpretation (English – Arabic) are needed at the IFLA 76th Annual Conference which will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden from 10 to 15 August, 2010 under the theme of “Open Access to Knowledge – promoting sustainable progress”.
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It includes about 1,700 members from 150 countries around the world.
IFLA’s General Conference and Assembly is held in a different city in August every year. More than 3,000 delegates meet to exchange experiences, debate professional issues, see the latest products of the information industry, conduct the business of IFLA and experience something of the culture of the host country. This year the IFLA Congress offers a unique opportunity to discover Gothenburg and enjoy the Congress within a friendly and clean city with a relaxed atmosphere situated by the sea and surrounded by pristine countryside.

IFLA provides simultaneous interpretation in 7 working languages: English, French, German, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and Spanish.
As the IFLACenter for Arabic Speaking Libraries at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, we are seeking simultaneous interpreters from all over the Arab world to work together on enhancing the Arab intellectual community and serve our delegates at the IFLA Conference in Gothenburg. The work entails simultaneous translation of some of the conference sessions.
Accepted applicants will be granted the following:
- Free travel to and from Gothenburg (Economy class)
- Visa fees
- Free Accommodation in one of the best hotels at a walking distance area from the ConferenceConvention Center – Bed only
- 40.00 Euro daily per-diem
- Free registration for the conference
Please note that no other fees will be paid for doing the translation work.
The following qualifications are required for application:
- B.A. or B.S. degree
- No less than 5 year experience in the library and information science profession
- Excellent command of the English and the Arabic languages
- Experience in simultaneous interpretation in previous conferences
